How can we help you?

Frequently Asked Questions

We don't move people out, we move people forward.

When should I call a moving company?
Book a mover 6-8 weeks in advance when possible. Planning ahead and booking early are key to a successful move, especially if you are moving between May and July. Around 80% of all moves in the United States take place during these summer months, so booking early is critical if you are joining the millions of families moving at that time.

Planning a long-distance move also may take more coordination, so call a moving company as early as possible to prepare. We highly recommend booking early, but if your moving date is quickly approaching and you have not found the right mover, call DWD Moving Services and we will do our best to accommodate.
What if I have to move into temporary housing first?
If you are moving into temporary housing first, DWD Moving Services will move you out of your home and help you get settled into your temporary residence. We can deliver the items you’ll want immediately to your temporary space and store the rest until you are ready to move to your final destination. When it is time to move into your permanent residence, we will transport all your belongings into your new home.
Can I change my Scheduled date and still get my Fee waived?
Sure, no problem. Just contact us and we can look for another open date.
What is full-service moving?
Full-service moving allows your movers to handle all aspects of the move for you. We’ll coordinate everything to ensure your belongings get to your new home in pristine condition, including storing items as necessary.
Are there any extra fees I need to be aware of?
Some moving companies will charge for things like: strangely shaped or awkward items; a residence that’s not easily accessible for a large moving truck or van and requires shuttle service; condos or high-rises with elevator and load restrictions; and loads that need to be hand carried over a certain distance. You may also be expected to pay fuel surcharges or transportation surcharges. If your items need to be stored, additional fees like warehouse handling charges may apply. Find out in advance so you can be prepared and avoid any surprises.
How is the cost of my shipment calculated?
Quality movers will have extensive coverage for workers compensation, so you don’t have to worry about being sued if a worker gets hurt while on the job. Also, choose a company that performs background checks on its workers – after all, you’re letting them into your home. This is a preemptive measure taken to ensure only the most reputable, professional workers enter your home, including packers, drivers, movers, coordinators and other staff.
How do you pack fragile or high-value items?
Fragile items should be those defined by you to be breakable or high-value (such as dishes, glassware, artwork, fragile furniture, mirrors, etc.). Ensure that all the items in your home are packed by experts using the most up-to-date packing methods and materials in the industry.
How do I move my plants?
We unfortunately cannot move plants on your behalf. You will want to make arrangements to move your plants in your vehicle. We also cannot move other perishables, such as produce.
